The United Nations Decade of Action on Road Safety Week

       The First Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011–2020 was officially proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in March 2010. Its goal is to stabilize and reduce the forecast level of road traffic deaths around the world.  For many years road traffic crashes have been acknowledged by the United Nations as a considerable challenge to the achievement of health and development goals. According to the Global status report on road safety, road traffic crashes take the lives of nearly 1.3 million people every year, and injure 20–50 million more. More than 90% of road traffic deaths and injuries occur in low-income and middle-income countries, which have only 48% of the world’s registered vehicles.  The United Nations has declared the years 2021 to 2030 as the  new Decade of Action for Road Safety entitled “Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. Things to know about the Lagos State's First and Last Mile (FLM) Buses

  The Lagos State government on Tuesday 18th April, 2021 unveiled 500 mini buses code name First and Last Mile (FLM) buses to ensure efficient intra-city transportation in the state. This 500 buses is believed to be the first phase of the planned 5,000 mini buses aimed at boosting transportation system in Lagos State. Speaking at the unveiling of the First and Last Mile (FLM) Bus Scheme at Ikeja, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said that buses would take care of commuting between the main transit corridors and the hearts of the communities, where the bulk of people reside and where the high capacity buses would normally not pass through.
